“Sparkling…a feast
for the heart…there can be no debate over the mesmerizing enchantment
of Carolyn Hannan.’ “Stimulating…immensely enjoyable, and vastly entertaining…a five star evening…a show not to be missed.” J Blaker Juniata News “Extremely well received…from
the very young to Second World War veterans.” “Carolyn Hannan’s powerful
vocal renditions and charming repartee and the rosing dance tunes thrilled
and delighted my guests.” “A Winner!” E. Williams, The Philadelphia Inquirer Dear Carolyn and John, By now you may have thought that I forgot about you, but I wanted to wait until our board members met to get their feedback before replying. After every show, we take time to review how things went. Our board has some musicians on it and I must report that there were unusual and interesting reactions when we reflected on your performance. At first, everyone was quiet, remembering with enjoyment what it was we had experienced. Then everyone just looked at each other with big smiles and grins on their faces. After that, a woman who sings and directs music said in an amazed tone of voice, “ she did THAT with a cold – can you imagine what she could do without one?” We rated the two of you as some of the best artists that we have had in the history of our 50 shows. Even though Carolyn’s voice was not as powerful as usual, her skill of expressing the emotion of the music was still present. We marveled at Carolyn’s skill at expressing all of the nuances of the music with her voice. Perhaps we were fortunate that Carolyn had to hold back. She might have blown our speakers off of their stands. We recognized that with John on stage, we had been in the presence of a master musician. We found out later that we were denied the thrill of hearing him play the accordion and dulcimer at the same time! I was quite serious when I said that we at Perkasie know that a performer is exceptional if he or she plays and records with Charlie Zahm. The guy has such high standards. We were also very moved and impressed with John’s caring and support for Carolyn with her vocal challenge. It helped create a stage presence that the audience picked up on and made them like you and care about you as people. Of course, the snail jokes were endearing. The two of you carried off the show in style. A style our patrons are used to and appreciate. Patchwork tends to stick with performances of a more traditional style. Once again we appreciate your working together to bring us a great show – in spite of the difficulty. We thought you had a very good set list. There is so much good stuff out there. I would like to personally thank you for making me look good. I was praised for “knowing how to pick ‘em”. Even with the stress of being behind the sound board, I found myself sitting back to enjoy the feeling of deep pleasure at the exquisite nature of your music. Thanks again for sharing your musical craft with us at Perkasie Patchwork. Ray Hunsberger Director Perkasie Patchwork Coffeehouse Perkasie, PA |
